Organizations We Love

Maryhouse is a daytime, no barrier, drop-in center for women and families experiencing homelessness. The program provides morning coffee, essential supplies, and hygiene care to women. Services for women include warm showers, clothing, diapers, menstrual/incontinence supplies and personalized resource counseling to thousands of vulnerable people every year.

A fierce team of compassionate staff endeavor to combat systemic poverty and marginalization by offering a safe space where guests receive support, celebrate triumphs and feel worthy. (Phone: 916-446-4961)

Volunteer Opportunities More than 4,000 volunteers from the Sacramento region come to Loaves & Fishes annually to help feed the hungry and distribute essential survival supplies. Because of the amount of hands-on labor needed to prepare, cook, and serve over 500 meals for lunch, most of the volunteers work in the Dining Room. Other opportunities include development support, assisting direct service and daytime respite programs such as Mustard Seed Emergency School, Maryhouse program for women and families, or helping at the service desk in Friendship Park. Volunteer sign-ups can be for a day, week, or multiple times a year.

The Lavender Library, Archives, and Cultural Exchange — commonly referred to as the Lavender Library or LLACE — is a lending library and archive housing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) books and magazines, various media, and archival materials. We host book clubs, support groups, open mic nights, craft markets, and other community events year-round and have grown to be an integral part of the Sacramento cultural community.

Located in the Lavender Heights district of Sacramento, the Lavender Library serves patrons in the greater Sacramento Valley and Northern California. We are 100% volunteer-operated, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and a designated United Way recipient agency.

Since our founding in 1997, LLACE has been a sanctuary, and gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community, and has held our collective queer histories. The library’s visionaries and founders hoped for a future where the LGBTQ+ community in Sacramento could thrive.

As the United States faces a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ violence, rhetoric, and legislation, our commitment to fostering a safe community has only grown.

We are proud to keep banned books on our shelves, host inclusive events, and create a sober and low-cost alternative to building queer community.

Their mission -

The Lavender Library collects, maintains, preserves, and circulates materials to patrons in a safe and friendly environment. The library promotes an understanding of gender and sexual diversity, and collects and preserves the community's history, writing, and memorabilia, by documenting for current and future generations the people, places, and events of Sacramento through the ongoing development and maintenance of the collection and the LLACE archival program.

WEAVE’s mission is to promote safe and healthy relationships and support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and sex trafficking. WEAVE’s vision is that when everyone acts, violence ends.

WEAVE is the primary provider of crisis intervention services for survivors of domestic violence and and the Rape Crisis Center for Sacramento County.  WEAVE provides an array of multi-lingual services designed to be survivor-centered and trauma-informed. We believe the survivor is the expert of their relationship and knows what is best themselves and their family. We work in partnership with the survivor to provide options. All WEAVE services are voluntary.

At WEAVE we believe that crisis intervention services are only part of the solution. School and community based prevention education are critical in disrupting the cycle of violence and moving towards a future free of violence and abuse.

WEAVE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to WEAVE are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our Tax ID # is 94-2493158.
